There’s a young girl who’s been crying
For her world just fell apart
The boy she loved has walked out
Leaving more than a broken heart
But she’s too young to start a family
And now she’s never felt so alone
She asks God for His mercy
As she picks up the telephone
There’s a couple who’s been praying
They’ve been trying hard for years
Sometimes it seems their plans and dreams
Have all but disappeared
Though their pockets now are empty
Still their hearts with love beat strong
They long so much to share it
But their hope is almost gone
Chorus:
Yet there’s a light that shines in darkness
And there’s a hope beyond despair
And for every heart that’s broken
A caring shoulder’s waiting near
Though the road looms dark and dreary
With no clear end in sight
With a little faith and the love of many
Everything will work out right
It’s a gentle voice that answers
And she smiles through the tears
Soon she finds she’s not alone
And just how many people care
Though it seems a heavy burden
Now it’s not just hers to bear
It’s a precious gift she carries
And now it’s someone’s answered prayer
There is One who sees from heaven
He cares about your pain
There are people you may never know
Who love you just the same
Now it’s three AM on Sunday
When they’re awakened by the phone
A baby girl has just been born
And she’s waiting to come home
And they thank God for His mercy
For the mother’s gift of grace
And for all the selfless people
Who helped this day take place
Chorus
For there’s a light that shines in darkness...
There’s a young girl and she’s smiling
In a cap and gown she waves
Her life’s been full of happiness
It’s a life she’d never trade
She’s so thankful for her parents
All the love and care they’ve shown
And for another’s selfless love
Whose face she’s never known
Chorus
And there’s a light that shines in darkness...
